Birth of Gandhi Memorial Society (GMS) |

It was on October 2nd 2004 Ashok Bazaz and Ramesh Vashi were at
University of North Florida (UNF), Jacksonville, FL, observing the Gandhi Birth anniversary Program
Organized by Indo-US Chamber of Commerce, Jacksonville branch.
During the course of the program it was learnt that UNF commenced its Educational program on Oct. 2nd-
the same day as Gandhi's birthday.The coincidence was exciting! |

| Inspired by this, Ashok Bazaz wrote a letter to UNF President John Delaney
about the idea of having a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on UNF campus.
The president was very positive about proposal, but added that the University could not fund the project.

Based upon the initial positive response from UNF, we started talking to a number of
people in the community and the feed back was very encouraging.It was on Dec. 12th ,2004 during a
Community get-together that the proposal was shared with the community collectively.
Many supporters agreed that we should form an organization , whose mission
is to propagate and propound the Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi
as preached and practiced by him during his life time,
and to erect a Monument/ Memorial in our Town.
These supporters and others who followed became the founding members of the Organization,
later named as Gandhi Memorial Society Inc.

| To accomplish the above mentioned Mission, Goal and Objectives,
the Society has taken up project - Nobleman.
Project Nobleman is the dedication of a monument of Shri Gandhi in the campus of the University of North Florida(UNF), Jacksonville, FL.

UNF has designated a site for the monument and will maintain and upkeep the site.
The Society will gift the Statue and build the required Infrastructure on site for the installation of statue.

| The underlying import of the Nobleman is : |
| * to inspire the students and faculty in general and beholders in particular, |
| * to inculcate in them the 'Thought of Human Values' and motivate them to adopt the same in their daily life for Peace, Prosperity and Progress.
